Eastern Maine Medical Center (EMMC) is located in Bangor, Maine. For more than 100 years, EMMC has been serving communities throughout central, eastern and northern Maine.
Under community direction, we have grown from a 5-bed general hospital into a comprehensive, 411-bed medical center. The medical center and its medical staff of nearly 300 physicians provide three-quarters of the primary-care hospital services offered in the Bangor area, as well as specialty and intensive services to the northern two-thirds of the state.
EMMC is an American College of Surgeons-verified Level II trauma center and host of LifeFlight of Maine, a statewide medical helicopter service that transports critically ill and injured patients.

CancerCare of Maine Receives Outstanding Achievement Award
EMMC's CancerCare of Maine has received the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Commission on Cancer for it's delivery of cancer care. The award is presented every three years, and EMMC is one of only three cancer centers in New England to receive this award (in 2005 and 2008). CancerCare of Maine serves more than 2,000 patients from across central, northern and eastern Maine.
July 2009 Fire Starter of the Month
The Studer Group, a healthcare consulting firm devoted to helping organizations create and sustain outcomes in service and operational excellence, named Eastern Maine Medical Center it's Fire Starter of the Month for July. The award recognizes EMMC's commitment to sustaining impressive patient satisfaction scores over a period of time.
Avatar International's 2008 Best Overall Performer Award
EMMC is proud that in 2008 it was only hospital in the nation to be recognized as an Overall Best Performer by Avatar International, Inc. six years in a row. The Overall Best Performer award is presented to the top 20 of 200 hospitals in the nation that measure patient satisfaction using Avatar throughout the year. EMMC has earned the distinction from 2003 through 2008.
EMMC Receives Top Honor for Healthcare Information Technology
Eastern Maine Medical Center is the sole recipient of the 2008 Nicholas E. Davies Organizational Award of Excellence from the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMMS). This prestigious award is given to select hospitals in the country for effectively using information technology to improve the safety and quality of patient care. EMMC joins 25 other hospitals since 1994 to receive top honors for healthcare information technology.
