At EMMC we provide our Graduate Nurses with support and a well-rounded education so you can successfully begin your nursing practice. You will see a varied patient population, be supported by extremely experienced career med/surg nurses, and develop the skills you need to advance your career.

Our staffing model supports our ‘Patient First’ philosophy, allowing our nurses quality time caring for their patients. You'll also enjoy an educator on every unit, in-hospital training opportunities and tuition reimbursement.

We hire Graduate Nurses into a wide range of units. Each unit that Graduate Nurses are frequently hired into serves one or more of the following patient populations:

  • Complex medical and surgical respiratory patients
  • Gastric bypass patients
  • Orthopedic and vascular surgery patients
  • Complex neurological medical and surgical patients
  • Trauma patients
  • Cardiac medical and surgical patients
  • Oncology and Hematology patients
  • Acute Rehabilitation patients
  • General Surgical patients

We do hire Graduate Nurses in our ED, ICU, CCU/CSU, NICU, OB/GYN, Labor & Delivery and Pediatrics, however less frequently. To be considered for one of these specialty areas, Graduate Nurses generally have completed a clinical preceptorship or partnership as part of their senior year in nursing school.

Orientation

Graduate Nurses receive an extensive unit-specific orientation that is individually tailored – and only complete when you, your preceptor and your nurse manager all feel you're ready.

Our nursing preceptors attend EMMC’s Nursing Preceptor Course to gain the skills and tools they need to be an effective preceptor and mentor. In fact, our Nursing Preceptors have a wide range of tools and resources available to them online to maximize your orientation experience.

Our basic orientation lasts six weeks. After that, Graduate Nurses work with their preceptors to identify areas where they need additional practice and develop a set of goals that need to be met for their orientation to be complete

As a Graduate Nurse, you are encouraged to share your career goals with your Nurse Manager. We want you to grow at EMMC; to become the nurse you aspire to be, in the clinical area you want to be in. We will give you an amazing experience and a great foundation to build your nursing career with us.
